Ninis Joins Greece Squad

Sotiris Ninis was selected to play for Greece last week, before Mondays friendly against Greece. Papers called it a "dream com true" for Ninis - as a lot of experienced, established players were not able to play due to club commitments.

Players like Antonios Nikopolidis, Vassilios Torosidis, Paraskevas Antzas and Christos Patsatzoglou - the Olympiacos CFP quartet - were all involved with the final against Aris Thessaloniki.

But this went from a dream come true, to a dream debut. Headlines changed to "Record-breaker Ninis stars for Greece", as Ninis scored within 5 minutes of his first apperance.

Greece went on to beat Cyprus 2 - 0, the second goal scored was a penalty. Ninis has only had 4 outings in the Greek Superleague this year - but none the less his debut goal broke the record for the youngest Greek goalscorer. Ninis is only 18.

This is the 9th consecutive win for the Greeks, and it was a very one-sided affair. Greece begin their campaign for holding the Euro 2008 cup on the 10th, against Sweden.
