Despite having some of the continent’s best talent at their disposal, Nigeria have flattered to deceive at recent World Cups. They failed to make it beyond Round 1 in their last appearance in 2002, although one could argue that they were in a tough group that also consisted of England, Sweden and Argentina.

Former Sweden boss Lars Lagerback will be coaching the Super Eagles at the 2010 World Cup. Lagerback took over the reins of the squad in 2010 from Shoaibu Amodu, who was shown the door after taking the team to a third place finish in the African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s midfield looks strong on paper with the likes of John Obi Mikel, Dickson Etuhu and Kalu Uche in it. In Taiye Taiwo, Danny Shittu and Joseph Yobo, they have got defenders who have played at the highest levels in France and England.

Will the Super Eagles do their nation proud at the 2010 World Cup? See Nigeria live at the WC to find out.
