Newcastle 0-2 Blackburn

The crisis at Newcastle deepened this weekend as they sunk once again on home turf; losing out 2-0 to Blackburn. A crowd which included former manager Bobby Robson and players Alan Shearer and Rob Lee cannot have been impressed with the poor performance of their beloved team. The match ended with the home team being booed from the pitch and the future looks bleak for manager Glen Roeder.

An early lead for Blackburn was created as striker Benni McCarthy converted a volley after the home defense went awol something which the toon army have come to expect. Stand in Steve Harper made some great saves in goal despite injury but was let down time and time again by woeful defending. Up front Michael Owen looked sharp but was unable to join the scoresheet as his best chance was headed off the line by Chris Samba.

Jason Roberts was to make it 2-0 for Blackburn. The home side lacked any real purpose or desire to win this match. Many Newcastle supporters left the last home game of the season well before the end of the match.
