Newcastle Look NorthNewcastle United and Celtic are in discussions over a prospective swap deal. If terms can be agreed, the Geordies full-back Jose Enrique will move to Celtic Park with Celtic captain Stephen McManus making the switch to St James’ Park. ![]() Celtic made the first move with an enquiry about the £6.3M Spaniard. On receipt, Newcastle manager Joe Kinner responded with a counter enquiry about McManus who he is keen to see included as part of any deal. Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan is understood not to want to part with a major influence in his squad. 25 year-old McManus, who has captained both Celtic and Scotland, debuted for Celtic in 2003. Enrique was signed in 2007 by former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce. With transfer funds not quite as liquid as they have been, the potential of a swap deal rather than a pure cash purchase may ultimately attract both clubs.
