After being watched by Brum boss Alex McLeish for the past year, the 24 year-old finally made his move to England leaving his home and Sporting Gijon for a £3M fee. He is now hoping both to prove McLeish’s judgement is right and also impress the Spanish national coach, Vincente del Bosque, although he admits he faces some fierce competition n that front.

"I think he (Bosque) watches all the Spanish players, but it's a big ask for me," said the player. "In my position there are players like Xabi Alonso, Iniesta, Xavi, Silva and Cazorla - many players." On his new manager he said "Yes, he's shown a lot of faith in me, and now training under him I'll try to show what I can do by working hard and showing the right attitude."

Michel’s arrival could be timely as Blues midfielder Lee Carsley is out until March after suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The 34 year-old has not had surgery but McLeish conceded that he would not play for at least six weeks.
