History

Netherlands have qualified to the semi finals for only a single time since their back to back final appearances in 1974 and 1978. Having failed to qualify to the 2002 World Cup, the Dutch were one of the favorites to progress far in Germany but failed at the first attempt after being dumped out of the tournament by Portugal in the knockout stage.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Netherlands had an excellent qualifying campaign, winning all of their eight matches and conceding just two goals in the process. The Dutch were only one of the two teams with a perfect record and coach Bert van Marwijk will be optimistic that his side can maintain that form in South Africa this summer.

The Dutch have been clubbed in a fairly easy group with Denmark, Cameroon and Japan being the other three teams. With Italy expected to top Group F, Netherland could also have a fairly easy time in the knockout stage against New Zealand, Paraguay or Slovakia.

Key Players

Ruud van Nistelrooy failed to make it to the squad for the World Cup but Netherlands have an abundance of talent upfront. Robin Van Persie and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar expected to lead the attack while Arjen Robben will be the key player for the Dutch after having an excellent season with Bayern Munich.
