Moyes In Everton Shake-Up Ahead Of Derby

Everton manager David Moyes has reportedly been a busy man this week, as a number of his squad are involved in a variety of transfer deals ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Liverpool.

The Toffees are 12th in the EPL and their form has improved of late, the highlight a 2-1 win over Champions League pretenders Tottenham at Goodison last week, followed by a 5-1 FA Cup third round success at Championship strugglers Scunthorpe.

Nonetheless, rumours have emerged of moves for players such as Steven Pienaar and club captain Phil Neville, while striker Yakubu Ayegbeini has already moved out on-loan to Championship promotion candidates Leicester City.

28-year-old Yakubu has struggled to rediscover his form since returning from long-term injury, scoring only once in eight Everton appearances this season.

Moyes is hopeful of snapping up Monaco striker Dieumerci Mbokani with the funds available after Yakubu’s departure.

South African international Pienaar has been linked with a move to Tottenham, who were also reportedly interested in Neville earlier this week.

Moyes moved quickly to deny the Neville rumours, saying that despite pre-transfer window talks with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, “at no time was any offer made – nor would one have been welcomed.”

Pienaar, meanwhile, has reportedly agreed a £70,000-per-week deal “in principle” with the North London club, a £10,000-per-week increase on Everton’s latest offer.

However, the 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and Spurs may decide not to spend £2m now on a player who will be available for free then.
