More Misery To Come For Reds

After going close last season, many people believed this would finally be the year for Liverpool to end their long drought and lift the Premier League crown – but it quickly descended into a farce.

With rumblings from the board, uncertainty over the club’s finances and a manager continuing to have faith with average players, the Merseysiders laboured to seventh – their worst finish since 1999.

Their failure to qualify for the Champions League – despite the guarantees from Rafael Benitez that they would – will restrict the type of players they can bring in over the summer and could lead to the departure of their main assets, with Fernando Torres at the centre of speculation linking him to a big money move away from Anfield.

Steven Gerrard had arguably his worst season in a Red shirt, while the club failed to get beyond the group stages of the Champions League.

Doubts remain over Benitez’s position as manager, but considering the club foolishly handed him a lucrative contract last season, it wouldn’t be surprise to see him wait it out for the golden handshake.

At least Hicks and Gillett, despised by most Reds’ fans, have put the club up for sale and the team did their bit to prevent Manchester United from overtaking them as the side with the most League title wins for now. Overall, this season has been an accident waiting to happen.
