Middlesbrough 3-1 Fulham

Mark Viduka scored what could potentially be his last goals at the Riverside as Middlesbrough trashed hapless Fulham 3-1. Viduka, who has not made it clear if he is staying or leaving, was in fine form on the final day of the Premiership. The burly Australian inspired much of Boro's campaign this season and today was no different.

Antti Niemi in the Fulham goal had his hands full as his defenders appeared to have leaden feet. Viduka made them pay heavily in the 34th minute as he latched onto a Jonathan Woodgate pass to send the ball screaming into the Fulham goal. Before this Wheater and Emanuel Pogatetz had great chances to send Boro into the lead, but Niemi saved wonderfully to keep Fulham in the game.

Simon Davies equalized for the visitors as an error by David Wheater allowed him to score in the 42nd minute. The Boro defender made amends minutes later when he headed in Fabio Rochemback's corner on 45 minutes. Viduka rounded off a fine day for Boro with a clinical finish just two minutes into the second half to end what has been a miserable season for Fulham.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate wants Viduka to make a decision soon, but said the Australian had made a difference, "Whatever happens he has been brilliant for me. In my first season, he has been a leader both on and off the field. I'm very grateful for his contribution," he added.

New Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez was grateful to have survived, but admitted his side were not good enough, "We have got over the line, but we have squeaked over the line. The job now is to make sure this is but a distant memory come next season," he added.

Boro finished 12th with 46 points, while Fulham escaped by the skin of their teeth finishing on the 16th spot with 39 points.
