After four consecutive Round of 16 appearances at the FIFA World Cup, Mexico will again hope to put up a good showing at football’s biggest tournament this summer in Africa. At the 2006 edition, Mexico reached the last sixteen before bowing out to Argentina. They have never managed to go beyond the quarterfinal stage at the World Cup. Coach Javier Aguirre has been fine tuning his side’s preparations and has several talented players to choose from.

In their ranks, Mexico have the evergreen Cuauhtémoc Blanco, who has over a hundred and ten caps to his name. They also have exciting attacking youngsters like Arsenal’s Carlos Vela and Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani dos Santos. Their midfield looks strong with the likes of Andres Guardado and Gerardo Torrado manning it. There is also plenty of experience at the back, with Jonny Magallon, Rafael Marquez, Ricardo Osorio and Carlos Salcido all available for selection.
