A 4-0 reverse at Fratton Park has led Wigan captain Mario Melchoit to issue a rallying cry to the troops. Whilst manager Roberto Martinez was extremely disappointed by his sides performance, Melchiot himself called on the squad to make a swift return to winning ways.

 

The former Chelsea man said "The most important thing is that we bounce back, and we learn from all the mistakes we have made. You win as a team and lose as a team…we have to make sure we work hard this week because we can't continue like this. We have to make sure we turn up from the start and not just later on."

Sunday’s game against Fulham will see Wigan players pay their own respects of remembrance as they wear shirts with poppies sewn into their tops. The shirts will subsequently be auctioned off for charity. Club Chief Executive Brenda Spencer said: "As a club we are very happy to support the Poppy Appeal in this way as Wigan Athletic players wear the poppy on their shirts for the very first time.”

Wigan will also invite serving and ex-serviceman to the game as their guests.
