Gary Megson was delighted to see the pressure lifted on striker Johan Elmander after he scored for Bolton Wanderers for the first time since the opening day of the season.

Elmander scored the final goal in a 3-1 victory for Bolton against Middlesbrough and the relief was palpable. Megson said “I am really delighted with the goal that he got. It was a great goal from his point of view and from ours, but it was more important that he got it”.

The 27 year Swede signed from Toulouse in the summer for a club record £10 Million but since the opening day has struggled to score goals. Megson said “Today his quality was there for everybody to see, but he is judged on goals as all centre-forwards are”.
