Megson Defends Davies StyleAfter an eventful home draw against Spurs, Trotters boss Gary Megson leapt to the defence of Kevin Davies and criticised Saturday’s match referee Mike Jones for his approach to the 32- year old striker. Davies is not the shy and retiring type on the field and his sometimes abrasive style of play can get him on the wrong side of officials. However, the Bolton manager spoke to Jones at half time against Tottenham and was unhappy with the response. Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson was unhappy with referee Mike Jones against Tottenham Hotspur, suggesting the official was taking Kevin Davies' record into account when making decisions. When Megson told Jones that Davies did not ‘need persecuting’ Jones allegedly replied “I have only given two fouls against him. Have you seen his record?” “It is not a referee’s job to be looking at someone’s record” fumed Megson, “They must look at the game going on and judge how they see fit”.
