McCarthy vs McCarthy….and Marcus

Despite a fine display of goalkeeping by USA international Marcus Hahnemann, Mick McCarthy’s Wolves were undone by another McCarthy, and former Wolves target, ex-Hamilton star James McCarthy.

Hahnemann’s heroics include a first half penalty save but the loss of Richard Stearman through his second yellow, the foul from which the penalty resulted, led to a little too much pressure placed on the American’s shoulder’s and goals from Charles N’Zogbia and McCarthy (J) sent Wigan home with all three points.

Wolves boss McCarthy (M) continues to be concerned that excessive and often preventable mistakes are costing his side too many points at critical moments in games. However, the recent form of defender Jody Craddock who has just reached 200 appearances for the club, is a major plus for the former Eire manager. 34 year-old Craddock has become a regular face in the Wolves first team and McCarthy has been impressed.

"Jody has been terrific," said McCarthy ,"He was out on loan a couple of years ago, I brought him back and he has been terrific ever since to be honest. Jody really has been unmovable and he has got us some vital goals as well and was top scorer at one time.” The defenders form has been such that he could well earn himself a new contract.
