Martinez Looks To Future

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez spoke today about the changes to his squad that he hopes will allow the Latics to progress in the Premier League.

Mohamed Diame

The Spaniard is sure that new boy Victor Moses and midfielder  will both prove their worth. Diame scored for the first time in a Wigan shirt at the Stadium Of Light and the Frenchman has been tipped to star in the remainder of the campaign. The 22 year-old was praised by his manager. "The Premier League, in that area, is full of athletes and the tempo is high and Momo has picked that up quick and it has been a pleasure to watch," said Martinez, "Now he has scored his first goal and he is slowly fulfilling his potential and is peaking and that is a great positive but he is still a young man and there is more to come."

Moses, still a teenager, may take slightly longer to adapt to the rigours of Premier League life and Martinez asked fans to be patient. "We have to allow Victor to feel himself around the place and remember he is a very young man" he said.

Erik Edman has been allowed to leave Wigan and his contract has been terminated by mutual consent. After an horrendous time with injury which has prevented him playing for a year and a half, the Swede is returning to Sweden to find first team football. Martinez added "It is important he can be happy. I don't think he could find happiness without playing football. The whole situation was getting a bit difficult for him and I think it is the best solution for him to carry on enjoying his football.”
