Marseille Triumph In FranceDidier Deschamps Marseille side clinched their tenth Ligue 1 title bringing them level with Saint Etienne who previously held the record alone. Having finished second to Bordeaux last year after missing out to Lyon two years previously, it was a sweet victory. They finished off their season with a comfortable home win against Grenoble thanks to strikes from Mamadou Niang and Hatem Ben Arfa. However, they had secured the title the previous week and the win left them with a 6-point gap between themselves and runners up Lyon whose 2-0 win over Le Mans helped them to overhaul Lille at the last to grab the second UEFA Champions League place. Lille entered the last round of matches in second but lost their final match at Lorient, a costly defeat as a late winner for Auxerre saw them steal third place leaving Lille in fourth although they still look forward to European competition next season and will represent their country alongside Auxerre and Montpellier in the Europa League. 2009 champions Bordeaux finished 6th and lost out on a European place. Grenoble finished bottom of the table and will be joined in the second tier of French football by Le Mans and Boulogne. Paris Saint-Germain won the French Cup and courtesy of their 1-0 win over Monaco also qualify for a shot at Europa League football.
