Mario Gomez - GermanyMario Gomez, born in Germany to a Spanish father and German mother, is widely considered the most exciting player to have broken into the German team since the previous World Cup campaign. He has managed to score a total of thirty-three league goals during the last two seasons for his team, Stuttgart, also winning the league title in the 2006/2007 season. The twenty-two year old striker is coveted by most of Europe’s big clubs and this lanky, two-footed player is sure to raise his stock significantly during the Euro 2008 finals. Gómez was a prolific scorer for Stuttgart's amateur team prior to making the breakthrough into first team squad during the 2005/2006 season. Initially he found himself being mainly used as a sub and in fact, out of thirty appearances, twenty-three were from the subs bench, scoring six goals in the process. The following season he finished up as Stuttgart's leading scorer in their surprising title winning season, with fourteen goals, even though he was out injured for quite a few games.
He then proceeded to score nineteen league goals in the 2007/2008 plus another three for good measure in the Champions League games against Rangers (one) and Lyon (two). Tags: Mario Gomez, Germany, Euro 2008 Posted: |
