Manchester United DoubleManchester United beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalties in the first all English Champions League final in Moscow's Luzhniki stadium to win their first continental title since 1999. Chelsea were the better side over a hundred and twenty minutes, but the fates seemed to be against them. They had shots hitting the bar, had Didier Drogba sent off, and would have won the game had skipper John Terry not slipped in his run up to the penalty spot.
It was an emotional win for United, coming half a century after the Munich air disaster that claimed the lives of the Busby Babes. Veteran winger Ryan Giggs also surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton's club record by making his 759th appearance for Manchester United.
The result was the third time Chelsea finished second to United this season- the Community Shield and the Premiership being the other two.
Another feather in the cap of the Red Devils, and they must surely start as one of the favourites in the upcoming season, especially if Ronaldo decides to stay put. Tags: Manchester United, Champions League, John Terry, Chelsea, Red Devils Posted: |
