Manchester City are buying players right, left and centre. And they added Brazilian Geovanni to their squad on a free transfer. Geovanni brings with him a lot of experience of having played in Spain and Portugal. He has also represented Barcelona and Benfica in the Champions League. In fact, it was his diving header that knocked United out of the League a couple of seasons ago. This itself would be enough to endear himself to the City faithful.

Geovanni was on a month long trial at Portsmouth and was all but certain to sign for Harry Redknapp’s side, but City contacted him and wrapped up the deal right under Pompey’s noses. He will wear the number eight jersey for City.

City are also pursuing Johan Elmander, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Gardner as they look to gatecrash into one of the European spots with a top 6 finish.
