Manchester United keep the pressure on second place Chelsea by going 6 points clear gathering a comfortable 2-0 victory over Sheffield United. While Sheffield United are now looking at a big relegation dog fight going into the last 5 matches.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men started off very brightly and it only took 4 minutes for Michael Carrick to put the home team 1-0 up. It stayed this way until the 50^th minute when Wayne Rooney scored his 13^th premiership goal making a 2-0 lead very comfortable for Ferguson’s men. A turning point in the game came when Luton Shelton on his first full debut was denied a penalty, brought down by Heinze but referee Rob Styles waved away the protests. Our Man of the Match had to be Michael Carrick he was excellent throughout the match carrying on his outstanding recent form and giving critics full justification for his price tag.

Manchester United will be happy with this result because they are one step closer to the premiership title and temporarily at least go 6 points clear of Chelsea. Alex Ferguson called this performance a “professional” performance because they remained composed yet played with future games in mind. With Middlesbrough next on Saturday, this is obviously another key match one where big teams have struggled this season.

No one really believed Sheff Utd would win this match but you have really got to give it to The Blades. All through the match they battled against a better side with debut man Luton Shelton being the best performer for the losing United. With The Blades sitting 17^th and only 2 points off the relegation place this weekends match is crucial  against struggling Charlton also in the mire of late. With last weekend big win over West Ham, this weekend fixture is even more important as the season draws to a close.
