Lyon eye Sunderland’s Chimbonda

Sunderland defender Pascal Chimbonda has bolstered speculation surrounding a possible move to French champions Lyon by claiming he would be interested in a move to the Stade Gerland.

Chimbonda told French media: 'Who would refuse Lyon? Me, I would go there on foot to sign. For the moment, they haven't called me. But I do not hide the fact that I am happy a big club is interested in me.'

Chimbonda, originally from Guadeloupe has found himself on the fringes in recent times at the Stadium of Light, and sees a return to his homeland as an ideal way to revitalise his career.

However, Chimbonda's agent, Willie McKay says there has been no contact with Lyon and that the right-back is happy at the Stadium of Light.

"There's been no contact from Lyon, Roy Keane picks the team but Pascal's quite happy at Sunderland and I believe he'll stay in the Premier League."

Chimbonda began his career in French football with Le Havre before moving on to Bastia, where he then made a name for himself earning a move to Wigan in the Premiership. In his first season in the Premiership Chimbonda was picked as the best right back in the league, earning himself a place in the PFA Team of the Year ahead of the likes of Gary Neville and Paulo Ferreira.
