Luxembourg were soundly beaten at home by bottom-placed Albania on June 2. The 2-0 win boosted Albania to the fifth spot in Group G and was the first win for the country in this Euro 2008 campaign. Coach Otto Baric was delighted wit his team's performance at the Qemal Stafa Stadium in Luxemburg as Albania put in a polished and professional performance.

The two goals were also the first ones for Albania after their 2-1 defeat by the Netherlands way back in October 2006. Thus far Albania have managed three draws and two losses before their fine win on June 2. Edmond Kapllani and Altin Haxhi were the goal scorers for Albania on their finest night in the Euro 2008 qualifiers so far.

Luxembourg coach Guy Hellers had brought back Jeff Strasser for the double header, but his return did not make any difference in the final standings. He had also included Portuguese-born forward Daniel Da Mota in his 20-man squad, but there was no denying the fact that Albania were the superior team on the given night.

Strasser, who plays for RC Strasbourg, happens to be the only professional player in the squad. Da Mota recently became a Luxemburg citizen and could be given his first international outing against Albania. René Peters, who had scored in Luxemburg's 2-0 win in a friendly against TuS Koblenz, also retains his place in the squad.

Luxembourg will have a tough time controlling Albania following their win on Saturday. Albania are on the fifth spot in Group G with six points from as many matches, while Luxembourg have bottomed out with no points from six games so far. Luxembourg v Albania is scheduled to commence at 19:15 on Wednesday.
