Low Expected To Stay In Charge

Ahead of Germany’s Third-Place match with Uruguay on Saturday, coach Joachim Low’s future has still to be decided. However, reports from the German press indicate that a deal for him to lead the national side into Euro 2012 is close.

His contract expired at the end of June but after guiding a young German side to the World Cup semi-final against most expectations, the president of the German Football Federation has stressed his continued support for Low remaining in charge. “The decision has been taken to meet after the finals are over and things have calmed down. Joachim Low knows that we want to stick with him and I believe the chances of that being the case are good.”

Striker Thomas Muller has said his nomination for the young player of the tournament award was ‘a wonderful recognition’. In 15 months, the 20 year-old has gone from Bayern Munich reserves to the World Cup semi-final and has scored four goals in the tournament.
