Liverpool owners back BenitezLiverpool co-owners Gillett and Hicks have given their backing to manager Rafa Benitez in the summer transfer market. After the clubs defeat in the Champions League Final Benitez is looking to use the investment of the 2 owners to take the club forward. In particular he is looking to increase the depth of his squad given the increasing number of games played during the season for the club. Whilst Liverpool have exceeded expectations in recent years on the European stage it is the aim of the club to also raise their game on the domestic front.
Gillett and Hicks have not ruled out a move to bring Owen back to Liverpool. The Newcastle striker’s future has been the topic of intense speculation since his return from injury and the plight of Newcastle United. In eight years at Liverpool, Owen scored 179 goals in 351 appearances and a return for the local hero would be most welcome. With a reported contract clause for a £9 million transfer fee Owen may well be earmarked on Benitez’ summer shopping list. Tags: Liverpool, Rafa Benitez, Champions League Final Posted: |
