Liverpool Defend Gerrard WithdrawalLiverpool’s chief executive Rick Parry has defended the decision to withdraw captain Steven Gerrard from England’s friendly game against Germany at Wembley stadium midweek. Gerrard is currently nursing a fractured toe but will continue to feature in the club side including the weekend tie with Chelsea. The new owners of the club George Gillett and Tom Hicks are expecting the club to do well this season and be heavily involved in the title race. Expectations are backed up by a £40 million summer spending spree that saw a number of top players including Fernando Torres arrive at Anfield. Rafael Benitez is not expected to sign any additional players. However, Gabriel Heinze has been a long term target and may join the club following results from a Premier League arbitration panel.
