Lithuania 1-0 GeorgiaLithuania scored a late goal as they overcame a determined Georgia team in a Euro 2008 qualifying Group B clash on June 2. The game in Kaunas was evenly balanced with both sides having a chance to settle it as it drew to a close. However substitute Saulius Mikoliunas settlked the game in favor of Lithuania with a late goal.
Georgia had the early chance with David Kvirkvelia getting a clear shot on goal. However he shot directly to Lithuania goalkeeper ydrunas Karčemarskas on nine minutes. At the other end Ricardas Beniušis and Mantas Savenas troubled Georgia keeper Lomaia, who was alert enough to stave off their attempts.
Arunas Klimavičius almost put his team ahead, but his shot was ill-directed and just wide off the post. Minutes later Marius Stankevicius tested Lomaia again, but the Georgia goal kepper tipped his shot over.
Levan Kobiashvili unleashed a 25-meter drive just before half time and that might have given Georgia the lead had it been hit with more force. However the game remained deadlocked as the sides headed into the break. After half-time , Kakha Kaladze had a chance that he narrowly missed, but other than this it was looking like stalemate.
With just 13 minutes left on the clock, Mikoluinas placed a perfect ball across Georgia keeper Lomaia, who was finally beaten to give Lituania the lead and untimately the game. Otar Martsvaladze and Kaladze hd decent chances as the game drew to a close, but were unable to trouble Karčemarskas in the Lithuania goal.
Lithuania are in the fifth spot with seven points from six games, while Georgia are in the sixth place with six points from seven games. On June 6, Lithuanai face Italy, while Georgia clash with group leaders France. Lithuania v Georgia ended with a narrow 1-0 home victory.
