Ligue 1 December 09

Reigning French champions Bordeaux enter 2010 with a 9 point lead over their nearest challengers Lille and looking increasingly likely to retain their title. The pack down to sixth includes Marseille and Lyon, two clubs with substantial championship reputations, but it will take a major switch in form to see anything other than a Bordeaux championship once again. Grenoble are propping up the rest with a single win so far this term. Boulogne, St Etienne and Le Mans would appear to be the other teams most likely to fight it out for the right to remain in the top league.

 Marouane Chamakh

Bordeaux’s sole worry may surround the future of striker Marouane Chamakh who remains a target for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal and who claims to be under pressure from the London club to move to the Premier league. Spanish side Sevilla are also reportedly interest in signing Chamakh as are Inter Milan and with the player out of contract in the summer, despite his protestations that he intends to finish the season with the French side, the pressure may be applied from other directions if Bordeaux are to either retain his services after the close season or are to partially cash in before his contract expires
