League Remains Priority For Moyes

The 1995 FA Cup is the last trophy won by Everton but manager David Moyes remains committed to the league as their main source of success.

A catalogue of injuries which virtually wiped out his first choice forward line has robbed Moyes of a real shot at a trophy during 2008/9 but their league form has remained constant and the Toffees continue to be in firm contention for a UEFA Cup spot. In a week where Martin O’Neill and Harry Redknapp decided on fielding less-than-perfect first elevens to their detriment, Moyes has not hidden where his priority lies.

"The Premier League, finishing high up and getting into a European competition is really important," Moyes said, "I think that getting a top six finish is really important."

The maladies to the likes of Yakubu and the injury-prone Saha has left Moyes dependent on Tim Cahill as his main goal-grabber. Fortunately, the Aussie has responded to the challenge and has weighed in with several well-timed and crucial goals during recent months. With Saha’s stunner against West Brom at the weekend signalling a return to fitness and form, the last couple of months of the season could well be profitable at Goodison Park.
