Denmark's remarkable comeback in the Euro 2008 qualifier match against Sweden was marred by a pitch invasion by a "drunken" fan who tried to punch referee Herbert Fandel for awarding a penalty to Sweden.

The Danish side was 3-0 down before it bounced back with goals from Daniel Agger, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Leon Andreasen and looked good for a point when the incident occurred. Fandel sent off Christian Poulsen for punching Sweden's Markus Rosenberg and awarded the away side a penalty.

This did not sit well with a Danish supporter and he ran up to Fandel and attempted to throw a punch. However he was rescued by Danish players and the match was called off. While a decision is still to be taken by UEFA's disciplinary committee, local media is speculating that the game will be awarded 3-0 to Sweden.

Denmark keeper Thomas Sorenson was clearly unhappy with how the match ended. "This was supposed to be a soccer party. But then these two ill tempered incidents happen and that is really an anti-climax", he said. If the match is indeed defaulted to Sweden, the Denmark will have to buckle their boots and play consistent football for the rest of the qualifiers.

The Danish side is currently in fourth position in the group, with 7 points from 4 matches played. However coach Morten Olsen will be looking to bag three points against bottom-placed Latvia.

Meanwhile Latvia suffered their third defeat in a row when they lost 2-0 to Spain on Saturday. One of the major worries for coach Aleksandrs Starkovs ahead of his side's game against Denmark will have to be his strikers' inability to hit the target in the three defeats.

Infact the only time that Latvia has scored was in the 4-0 victory against Iceland last year. Latvia is currently in last place in the group table with just 3 points from 5 games played. Latvia v Denmark kicks off at 19:30 gmt.
