Larsson Named In Swede Squad

Henrik Larsson will be in the squad for Sweden in this year UEFA Euro 2008. Before revealing his squad, the swedish manager, Lars Lagerbäck stated that they would be read out in a random order. Apparently that was a lie, as the 23rd name, Henrik Larsson was greeted with a cheer.

Larsson retired from international football at 36, following elimination at the 2006 World cup. But it seems Lars Lagerbäck still had him in mind, as Larsson maintained high quality football at Helsinborgs IF.

"There's been a glow about Henrik and his football throughout the spring," Lagerbäck said. "And I know that he looks like he's enjoying his football, he's playing good football."

Larsson said that when he retired he was disappointed with how they played against Germany, and with his own performance. He got a surprise voicemail on his phone while

playing golf a couple of days ago - and made a quick, positive decision.

Although Sweden has welcomed back Larsson, Ludic will not be travelling to Euro 2008. The veteran rejected the offer.

Sweden are still waiting on news on whether their captain Freddie Ljungberg will be available - after the midfielder suffered a cracked rib for his club West Ham earlier in the month.

Ljungberg, 31, was substituted 21 minutes into the 2 - 2 draw with Newcastle after he collided with defender Steven Taylor.

Alan Curbishley said: "We think he has got a cracked rib. Taylor has tried to get back, tried to leapfrog him and landed on him. He has been raked all down the front and the side of his face and cracked a rib. We hope he is OK for the EURO."

Ljungberg has currently won 71 caps for Sweden. Sweden are in Group D, with Russia Spain and Greece in their group.
