Knezevc Out of the TournamentBig Croatian centre-back Dario Knezevic will almost certainly miss his teams concluding games in the Euro 2008 competition after a knee injury forced him off the pitch in Monday evenings 1-0 win over their Polish counterparts.
The twenty-six year old defender hobbled off the pitch after just twenty-seven minutes when he collided with Vedran Runje, his own goalkeeper. Slaven Bilic has said that the player is not badly injured and there is no fear that he will be out of the game for a long period, but it's almost a foregone conclusion that he will miss the rest of this tournament. He went on to say that Knežević has strained some ligaments in the area of his left knee and that the injury is a massive blow for Croatia as he was one of their defensive stalwarts.
Knežević came into Euro 2008 with only seven caps to his name, but came on as a substitute in the first two games Croatia played, against Austria and Germany respectively and performed really well in both. Because of this his reward was a place in the starting line up against Poland.
Bilić also told the press that several other players sustained minor knocks during the Poland game but he expects all of them to make it for the quarter-final against Turkey on Friday. Tags: Dario Knezevic, Euro 2008, Slaven Bilic, Croatia Posted: 18th June 2008 |
