If it came down to heart and courage, the Kiwis would deserve to go through from their group along with Paraguay, who they face in their final group match.

The Kiwis have put some of the bigger nations to shame with their great attitude and they have justified their inclusion in the World Cup when many felt they didn’t deserve their place.

They could end up as gallant losers in the group phase – but football in New Zealand and the spirit of the game has scored a magnificent victory.
