Kinnear Remains Confident Over Owen Contract

Joe Kinnear believes that Michael Owen will commit his future to Newcastle United. The interim manager was facing media questions about the former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker’s delay in signing a new three year contract at St James Park.

Owen has been plagued by injuries in the three years he has been at Newcastle and he has also played under a succession of managers. Some commentators believe that Owen’s delay in signing a new deal is significant. The 29 year old will be able to talk to other clubs in January and so will effectively be a free agent.

However Kinnear is hopeful. He said “Michael himself is not too sure and that's why he sees taking his time as the best option…Believe it or not, he was quite happy with the terms, it was just that this is the final decision he is going to make in his career”.

Owen has been in good form this season. In just fourteen appearances he has scored seven goals.
