After winning his first game since returning as Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan praised the form of striker Michael Owen.

Newcastle beat Fulham 2-0 in the Premier League today and Owen got the second goal of the game to secure the three points for Keegan. This meant that Keegan won his first game since becoming Newcastle manager and also meant that it pulled the club away from the relegation zone for a while.

Keegan praised Owen for his performances in the last few weeks. Keegan thought that his team deserved to win and that the spirit around the club is good, but they just needed to win.

He added that he thought his side played some great football at times and heaped praise on the Newcastle fans for sticking with the team through thick and thin.

He also said that the players know what they have to do now to get out of the bottom of the league and this has helped by the example set by Michael Owen. He said that Owen has been absolutely brilliant, not just scoring goals but by the way he leads the line on the pitch.

Finally he added that Owen was a superb team player and would play anywhere to help the team as he has showed by playing in all sorts of positions against other teams.
