Robbie Keane was allowed to rejoin Tottenham Hotspur because he failed to settle, Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez explained.

 

The 28 year-old arrived back at White Hart Lane on a four year deal for £7M less than the £19M he left for not six months ago. Five goals in 19 appearances was not the type of return expected from the Republic Of Ireland captain by the team he supported as a boy but the player himself admitted that the move “proved not to be right”.

Benitez admitted that the sale was a bit of a risk but that with Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel all fit and available, Liverpool were still more than capable of calling on sufficient firepower to maintain their title challenge.
