Kanoute to stay with Sevilla29 year old striker Frederic Kanoute has dashed the hopes of a number of Premiership clubs by committing his future to UEFA Cup champions Sevilla. The Spanish La Liga side also won the Spanish Cup despite Kanoute’s dismissal from the game prior to the final whistle for retaliating after being fouled. A number of clubs were linked to the Mali international player including Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers. However, with 2 years remaining on his contract Kanoute publically declared he has no plans on moving. Sevilla finished third in the Spanish La Liga behind Real Madrid and Barcelona and have claimed a place in the UEFA Champions League with their success. Kanoute managed to score a total of 21 league goals during the course of the season and has been a key feature in a robust side. Kanoute has played for West Ham and Tottenham in the past before joining Sevilla in 2005. His public declaration removes any rumours surrounding his near future.
