Kaka - BrazilAfter leaving Sao Paulo to join AC Milan in 2003, Kaka developed into one of the few genuine world class players of recent times. With his close control, acceleration and eye for goal, he was a lynchpin for the Rossenari, helping them to a string of successes in Europe. One of his standout performances in a Milan shirt was in the Champions league semi-final against Manchester United in 2007. As well as scoring three times over the two legs, his beguiling speed and technical ability left the Old Trafford club reeling. ![]() His performances were recognised with the World Player of the Year gong in 2007. However, as an ageing Milan side deteriorated and became less influential in Europe, Kaka left the San Siro to join big-spending Real Madrid last summer – but he endured a below-par debut season. It was an injury-plagued campaign, but some frustrated views suggested he was holding back for the World Cup. It’s an unfair criticism because Kaka has always played with honesty and integrity, and it’s not easy to come into a new side and be expected to deliver straight away - especially if he had to play through the pain barrier. It will be Kaka’s third finals (he was part of the squad that won it in 2002) but if Brazil are to enjoy a sixth triumph, then they better hope Kaka is over his injury problems.
