Juventus - narrow escape

It took two Vincenzo Iaquinta goals to prevent a shock defeat against Belarusian side BATE Borisov, in a 2-2 Uefa Champions League draw. BATE went 2-0 up much to the dismay of the travelling bianconeri fans after goals from Sergei Kryvets and Igor Stasevich. However, Juve managed to claw the way back into the game thanks to a brace from striker Iaquinta, his second coming on the stroke of half-time. Both sides pushed for that all elusive goal in the second half, but it will be Juventus who come out of the tie disappointed, after having the better of the chances in the second half and surely coming into the game expecting an away win.

Palermo piled further misery on Juventus after they sealed a 2-1 away win against 10 men. A superb Alessandro del Piero free-kick had cancelled out Fabrizio Miccol’s goal, before Mohammed Sissoko was sent off for the bianconeri and Georgian striker Levan Mchedlidze struck late to seal the win for Palermo. Juventus’ upcoming Serie A fixture against Napoli is one of many live football games to be streamed this weekend here at the Live Football Network, including numerous Serie A live games.

Veteran midfielder Pavel Nedved has insisted that there is no rift between club’s players and coach Claudio Ranieri. Numerous media sources had claimed that Ranieri is facing the sack after no wins in four games, and that a divide between the players and the former Chelsea boss had begun to appear. However, speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetto dello Sport, Nedved insisted that the stories couldn’t be further from the truth.

And finally, any hopes of Xabi Alonso moving to the Stadio Olimpico quickly dissolved this week after Ranieri revealed he turned down the opportunity to sign the midfielder because he was too slow and would not be able to fit in at the club.
