Jon Dahl Tomasson will captain Denmark into the World Cup in South Africa with his sights set firmly on goals. In an eighteen year career approaching 500 games, the Feyenoord forward has grabbed almost 200. He needs two to become his country’s all-time leading scorer.

 

After starting out at Koge in Denmark, he has played throughout Europe for some of the best known teams and has made a reputation for himself as a consistent goal-scorer. After 37 goals for Koge, he moved to Heerenveen and scored the same number before being signed by Newcastle of the English Premier League. However, playing as the main striker did not suit him and after an unsuccessful season he moved to Feyenoord. He immediately returned to the goals trail and has not lost his touch since scoring over 100 goals in spells for Milan, Stuttgart, Villarreal in between two spells with his current Dutch club.

He has won domestic and European honours with his clubs, including the UEFA Champions League with AC Milan, and has averaged almost a goal every other game for Denmark since his debut in 1997. Tomasson will be a real threat for Denmark and will lead his team by example.
