Newcastle United new signing Joey Barton is to undergo surgery following an injury picked up in the recent friendly game with Carlisle. The 24 year old midfielder fractured a metatarsal in the uneventful game. Barton an international player joined Newcastle United under Sam Allardyce’s new regime back in June from Manchester City for a reported fee of £5.8 million.

The injury news is not good for Allardyce as Given, Owen and Ameobi currently prop up the sick list. In other news there has been speculation for over a week of a transfer away for long term midfielder Kieron Dyer.
