Joe Shows Great ‘Hart’

Birmingham City progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Cup after coming back from a goal behind to beat Derby County at Pride Park. And goalkeeper Joe Hart recovered from a bad error that gifted the Rams the lead to produce a last gasp stop to deny the home side an equaliser.

Hart, who still harbours hopes of making Fabio Capello’s final 22-man squad, allowed a Jay McEverley shot to bounce away from him and over the line to put Derby a goal up but responded well and made a superb late save to prevent ex-Brum midfielder Robbie Savage from forcing a replay. Manager Alex McLeish defended his keeper saying"McEveley's shot took a bounce in front of Joe and it was a difficult pitch but I was still surprised to see it end up in the back of the net. But Joe has shown great character all season and always responded in the right way. It was a tremendous save that he made from Savage right at the death. I spoke to Fabio Capello (England coach) during the week and he is also very happy with Joe's form overall."

Alex McLeish praised his teams spirit for coming back after beign a goal behind and second best for periods of the game. Strikes from Scott Dann and Liam Ridgwell sent City through to the last eight but McLeish felt it was the overall team effort that most pleased him.”…the team demonstrated the fantastic determination they have produced time and time again this season. What we have to do now is maintain our form. If you get cocky and complacent the roof can cave in but we have got a lot of leaders in that dressing room."
