Jarvis Sees Derby Chance

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matt Jarvis is convinced that the new 4-5-1 formation recently adopted by the Molineux club can produce a result against local neighbours Birmingham City.

Jarvis feels that the change made by manager Mick McCarthy has balanced the side with the lone striker being offered more support from players such as himself. “As long as we play as we have and not allow Kevin Doyle to get isolated, we can make it work because I feel we’ve adapted well. Jarvis added “We’ve done well at St Andrew’s in the past – it’s a big derby and we’ll be going there with confidence. We’ve managed to create lots of chances from that shape and cause defences problems.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy himself has insisted that Wolves’ Premier League performances should ultimately judge the success or failure of the side, not a cup exit. Following good performances against Hull City and Liverpool, the disappointment of the FA Cup defeat by Crystal Palace will be forgotten with a display against Birmingham.

McCarthy’s captain Karl Henry remains confident that Wolves can survive in the Premier League. Despite being at the wrong end of the table Henry said that survival this year can give the club a basis to progress. "You have to stabilise first and that is what we are trying to do. It will be a massive season for us if we can stay in this league. The club could really kick on next season and go from strength” he said.
