Ivory Coast’s first appearance in a World Cup was in 2006 and they were picked in another tough group comprising of Argentina, Netherland and Serbia. However two defeats in their opening two games ended any hopes of a shock progress to the next stage but they ended their campaign by registering their first victory in the competition by beating Serbia in their final group game.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Ivory Coast had an excellent start to their qualification campaign by securing a comfortable passage to the third round before winning five of their six games to secure a place in the World Cup.

Premier League’s leading goal scorer Didier Drogba will prove to be the key for Ivory Coast’s hopes of progressing to the next stage. Salomon Kalou and Aruna Dindane have had an excellent season with their respective clubs while Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue will provide the solidity at the back.
