Italians Plead With Van BastenWith their Euro 2008 hopes hanging by a thread, both Gianluigi Buffon and Arrigo Sacchi have asked Marco Van Basten to play it fair against Romania. Buffon, who saved Adrian Mutu's penalty in Italy's 1-1 draw against Romania, reportedly wants to play Holland again- to gain revenge for the 0-3 opening loss.
Sacchi also reportedly wrote a colum in a top Italian newspaper, asking Van Basten to do a favour for his old team mate Roberto Donadoni. Both Donadoni and Van Basten used to play for AC Milan when Sacchi had a coaching job with the Rossoneri. Sacchi was also extremely critical of the Azzurri’s performance against the Netherlands in their opening game.
Italian newspapers are also livid over Norwegian referee Tom Ovrebo's decision to rule Italy Luca Toni's headed first half goal offside. The Bayern Munich forward had connected with a cross from the right, but both he and Del Piero were onside when the ball was played in. Tags: Euro 2008, Marco Van Basten, Italy Posted: |
