Injury to Altintop Overshadows Turkish Preparation For Euro 2008
Turkey coach Fatih Terim has been dealt a potentially severe blow to his plans for Euro 2008. Influential midfielder Hamit Altintop has reported that he suffered a muscle injury in training last week and is now a major doubt for the Championships.
The Bayern Munich midfielder has only just returned from a broken metatarsal in his right foot that meant he missed the last few months of the domestic season. He made his succedHe made his successful comeback in the friendly game against Uruguay last week, a game that Turkey lost 3-2.
Terim will be hoping that the news is positive this week. Having already lost full back Gokhan Gonul to injury, he will not want to make further changes to his plans at such a late stage.
If Altintop fails to recover in time for Euro 2008, his likely replacement will either be his brother Halil Altintop or Yildiray Basturk.
