Injuries Stack Up For Turkey As Emre Adds To Woes

Turkey coach Fetih Terim may well begin to feel that the gods are against him as he was given the news on Tuesday that captain and influential playmaker Emre was ruled out of the crucial Group A match against the co-host nation Switzerland.

The former Newcastle player felt a pain in his leg and scan results have confirmed that Emre has a tear in his hamstring. He is also unlikely to make the final group game against the Czech Republic on Sunday. Terim said “He suffered a slight muscle injury in his hamstring…he was not feeling well. We sent him for an MRI scan in Basel and it revealed a swelling of about three to four centimeters”.

Emre’s injury comes just days after it emerged that Turkey’s defensive duo Servet Cetin and Gokhan Zan suffered injuries. Both are unlikely to make the game against the Swiss, but a decision will not be made until they have undertaken fitness tests on the day of the game.
