Ibrahimovic looks to LarssonSwedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic feels Henrik Larsson will help him overcome the goal drought he is going through and hopes Larsson will be chosen as his strike partner for the upcoming European Championships at Austria and Switzerland. October 2005 was the last time that the Inter Milan striker celebrated a goal for Sweden, but Ibrahimovic feels Larsson, a surprise last minute selection, can help him put this drought behind him.
“Henrik and I have a special relationship and we have played a lot together. He helps me a lot and he can help me during this championship if we are picked together, Of course it is up to the coach who plays and I respect all the strikers in our team but Henrik is who I play best with.” Ibrahimovich told reporters.
“Sooner or later I will score. I just keep trying to create as many chances for myself and my team mates,” Ibrahimovich said.
'The only pressure I feel is from myself because I want to play the same way for Sweden as you have seen me at Inter.” ![]()
Sweden coach Lars Lagerback has also extended his support to the goal-barren striker and didn’t show concern at Ibrahimovic’s drought. Lagerback said “You have to look at the facts. At Inter he plays more games and in every eight or nine matches out of 10, Inter are the better team. But Zlatan was an important player for us in qualification, creating many chances for others to score”
Sweden will certainly need both Larsson as well as Ibrahimovic to fire, if they hope to achieve success at the European Championships kicking off on Saturday. Sweden find themselves in Group D for Euro 2008, along with powerhouse Spain, defending champions Greece, and Russia and a prolongation of the goal drought certainly wont help Sweden’s cause.
