“I Feel Robbed”, Says McCarthy After Bolton jolt

Wolverhampton Wanderers supremo Mick McCarthy was full of the woes of winter after some alarming defending saw his side lose 1-0 at Bolton this week, leaving Wolves bottom of the EPL.

Wolves have suffered a number of late setbacks this season, which McCarthy said were “self-inflicted.” But Ronald Zubar’s brainstorm was possibly the worst of the lot.

McCarthy also suffered a transfer window setback, with Spurs’ England international centre-back Jonathan Woodgate turning down a loan move to Molineux.

The Wolves boss said he felt “lousy, robbed” after Zubar’s badly underhit backpass in the 93rd minute gifted the winning goal to Bolton’s Daniel Sturridge.

McCarthy continued: “I feel we had a point in our pocket and we’ve given it away. It was self-inflicted after we played all right in the game and scrapped it out.”

Wolves are three points from safety and two points behind second-bottom Wigan. And McCarthy warmed to the theme of self-infliction.

“It was self-inflicted at Fulham when we lost a point there, it was self-inflicted at home against Aston Villa, at Spurs, at Manchester United…I might go on and on,” he went on.

30-year-old Woodgate last week turned down a loan move from Spurs to aid his comeback from long-term injury. McCarthy said: “He doesn’t want to do it, he wants to fight for his place there, so fair play to him.”

Wolves face Manchester United and Arsenal in the EPL over the next two Saturdays, with unbeaten league leaders United arriving at Molineux this Saturday evening.
