Hughes Defends Selection

Mark Hughes manager of Premiership side Blackburn Rovers believes his much discussed selection policy is finally being accepted by players under his leadership.

Mark Hughes has gained a reputation as a ruthless manager with a selection policy similar to that of Rafa Benitez. During the last 3 games names such as Robbie Savage, Pedersen and McCarthy have not featured. However, during the same games the club has also picked up all 9 points to continue an impressive start to the season.

"We're a side that's playing good football and everybody wants to play and be part of it," assessed Hughes.

"I've made a couple of decisions that obviously affect people, and when you do that, some react differently than others.

Mark Hughes selection policy has created good progress on the domestic front. However, in Europe Blackburn were surprisingly dumped from the UEFA Cup after falling to Greek club Larissa. The result is likely to lead to further changes or the weekend match. Midfielders Tugay (ankle) and David Dunn (thigh) are doubts, while defender Ryan Nelsen (hamstring) and Jason Roberts (thigh) remain sidelined restricting Hughes choices.
