Hughes Clinches Robinho Record Deal On Deadline DayManchester City grabbed all of the headlines on the last day of the summer transfer window by announcing the Premier League’s record transfer deal. Brazilian forward Robinho has joined the club from Spanish Champions Real Madrid for £32.5 Million.
The 24 year was set to join fellow Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari at Chelsea but following a dramatic turn of events on 1 September, Robinho will now line up in the Premier League for Mark Hughes’ side. Chelsea argued that they were unwilling to match Real Madrid’s valuation of the player and following the sale of Manchester City to the wealthy Abu Dhabi investment group, the club wasted no time in bringing Robinho to the City of Manchester Stadium. It is a remarkable series of events for a club that struggled to attract anyone to the club just three years ago. Robinho’s capture along with the significant transfers of Vincent Kompany, Jo, Tal Ben Heim and Shaun Wright-Phillips to the club will force many experts on the game to re-evaluate their predictions for the rest of the season.
Manager Mark Hughes said following the announcement of Robinho’s arrival, "I am absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to work with such an incredible talent like Robinho…This is a real statement of intent as to the ambitions of this club." He added "I have said that in order to compete with the best teams in the Premier League we have to be in the market for players of this calibre, and Robinho is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world”.
Robinho has signed for the club on a four year contract. Tags: Manchester City, Robinho, Premier League, Mark Hughes Posted: |
